DRUMS OF HOPE

Drums of Hope: Like the beat of our hearts, the beat of the drum can be a powerful force. The Eisa Drum Festival and Daiichi Hirata are pleased to announce a new show called “Drums of Hope.” This production brings together drummers from Hawaii, Okinawa, and Fukushima. This show tells a story of how culture can provide the light we need to get through some of our darkest times. With Daiichi Hirata directing, this is going to be amazing!

Performers: Hawaii performers include Chinagu Eisa Hawaii, Hawaii Okinawa Creative Arts, Nuuanu Shorin Ryu Karate and Tamagusuku Ryu Senjukai Hawaii. Special guests: Kumu Michael Pili Pang and Halau Hula Ka No’eau.

From Okinawa acclaimed chanter and musician Daiichi Hirata and members of his academy will be performing, as well as Souka Kariyushi, the recipients of the 2014 Aloha Spirit Award and 3rd place winners of the Worldwide Eisa Festival competition. From Fukushima, there will be the taiko drummers of Team Ibuki.

Kazufumi Miyazawa, the lead singer of world famous rock group The Boom, is our special guest performer! He and Daiichi will debut a new song they wrote for this show. Miyazawa performing Shima Uta: https://youtu.be/5daDtOHE8WI

Cost: General admission tickets are $30 and Super Supporter Tickets are $100.

With the Super Support ticket you get a $55 tax deduction, parking pass at the center, early entry and a reserved seat. Part of proceeds will support the Hawaii United Okinawa Association which is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Hawaii Okinawa Center. We also hope to help out in Fukushima by purchasing drums for community youth organizations so that culture can shine a light for them in still dark times.
